The Last Scrap Around The World Reveal!

Hello - and welcome to the last Scrap Around The World reveal! Yes, SATW is closing down. This will be the last month but it will be a month with loads of extra prizes, so head over to check it out here.

Here's what I made:

I adore this photo of my daughter. She can be so quiet sometimes and so out there at other times!

Here is the gorgeous mood board by the equally gorgeous Valia Katzaki. I think it's pretty obvious that my influences were the pink and gold colours but I also used flowers and leaves and I added the quote into the main flower cluster. I think any girl that can pull off a pic like this has a very bright future!

I was quite deliberate about where I put the Magicals that form the pink spray behind the photo. I wanted to accentuate that feel of the energy radiating out from my daughter. This photo was actually taken in a room with a really cluttered background, so I photoshopped the background out which also made her stand out more. By making the photo background all white, then leaving it as an almost complete 6 x 4 photo, I was really able to play with the white photo on white cardstock concept.

I kept the title simple - and very self-explanatory! - and coated it with gold paint. I then added gold Metallic Melts to just the bottom half for some extra interest.

I sure hope you can join in the very final SATW challenge!

"More Than Words" is Here!

Hello everyone! I have some VERY exciting news to share - at last I can tell you! We are starting a new challenge blog!!!

Here is what's been going on in a nutshell:

  • Scrap Around The World is closing down. December is the last month. This is so sad as SATW has been a leader in this area for many years. There are loads of extra prizes this month so make sure you get your entry into the last ever SATW challenge!
  • Some of the SATW admin team decided that the closure of SATW would leave a huge gap in the challenge scene so we got together and are starting our own challenge blog!
  • The new challenge blog is called More Than Words. The challenges start on the 1st of January but there are also some things happening this month which I can share soon.
  • You can find us here:
A certain gorgeous young lady has been helping us out too....

I will be back later with some more info but in the meantime, I'd love it if you dropped by our blog and Facebook page to see what we're up to!

Happy scrappin'!

The Mad Hatter

Hello there!

I had a layout published in Scrapbooking Memories magazine, Volume 18, No 3. This one had an interesting technique which you might find useful.

Do you have any old tubes of photo glue in your stash? I used to use these all the time and I sometimes still pull them out as they have some unique properties.

To make the pattern in the red paint, I first rubbed photo glue through a stencil with my finger. I removed the stencil and cleaned it straight away. I then swiped red paint over the stencilled area. When the glue was completely dry, I rubbed it off with my finger which left the white paper showing through underneath. It's pretty cool I think!

I also used a stamp through a diamond stencil to create another interesting feature. I then traced around the diamonds with a pen.

Happy scrappin'!

Gift Cards for Gift Cards!

Hello there! I thought that with Christmas coming up it might be a good idea to re-visit an idea I had earlier in the year about how to present gift cards in a meaningful and attractive way. I've put this post up before so if you've seen it, feel free to move on!

I bought some gift cards to give to some family members and was wondering how I could present them nicely to their recipients. My solution was to create a card that provided both a place to write my sentiments plus a place to hold the gift card.

Here's what I made:

Can you see the gift cards? They're tucked into pockets on the front of the cards.

The darker card was made with a young male in mind, hence the grunginess. I started with a clothing tag as my base for the pocket and stitched a diagonally cut piece of paper onto it to slide the gift card into. The chippie word 'Dude', the barbed wire and the spark plug were all treated with Gelatos and Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts in a similar way to that which I described in a previous post here.  Isn't that chippie font so cool?

The background was made using texture paste through a stencil then adding some sprays.

The female card was much harder to make because I already had the gift card and it was hot pink. Eeek! I teamed it up with some stunning Websters Pages paper and kept the embellishments pretty rather than grungy. I love these Dusty Attic titles.

Here are the products I used:

Word Pack #6

Barb Wire #2

Spark Plugs

Stars #3

mini Stars

Word Pack #7

Branch #4 small

Flutterbies #3

mini Hearts #2

I hope this has inspired you to add a personal touch to your gift-voucher giving this year! Don't forget you can buy Dusty Attic products online now here.

Happy scrappin'!
