Oh So Strong!

Hi there - welcome back! I'm sharing a layout I made for The Dusty Attic today. The Dusty Attic have a special on where all orders over $75 receive free postage. That's fabulous!

Today I'm using a chippie word that I never thought I'd use - "strong". This word comes in a pack with others like "energetic" and "crazy". To me, these words are typically aimed a young boys so I just thought I would be unlikely to use them. However, when I found these photos of my daughter posing like a muscle man after her karate grading I realised the word "strong" is actually very appropriate for her. Yes, she was being silly, but she really is a very strong young lady, both mentally and physically. So here's my "Strong" layout!

I love the juxtopisiton of the bright, girly colours with the tough and strong images. This page is not only about my daughter's achievements (and her whacky sense of humour!) but also about girl power!

The chippie below the photo is another one that I've used in a way that would be different to it's intention. It's actually called "Elegant Pearls" but, as you can see, I haven't used it on an elegant page at all! I thought it mimicked her medallion really well so I inked and painted it in the same colours as the medallion around her neck. I then used the waste of the chippie behind the photos to raise them up, allowing me to slide the other chippies slightly under the photos.

I've used a combination of spray dribbles and stitching beneath the photos.

Oh, and is that a Dusty Attic stencil on the background again? I think they might be being released soon. Whoops! Did I say that? My lips are sealed!

DESIGN TEAM 'MOMENT TO SHINE' PHOTO TUTORIAL

Hi there,

Well I am SO excited to be sharing my first layout for Scrap Around The World as a new Design Team member. I'm an Australian Ambassador as well as the Tutorials Manager which means I'm the person who organises the two tutorials per month. These tutorials are made by all members of the team, however the first one I'm in charge of producing happens to be mine!

Without any further ado, here is my layout:

You can find this month's challenge here. And now, here is my tutorial on how I made those butterflies that coordinate with my background.

1. After you have created your background, select some of the colours from it that you want to highlight. Take a scrap piece of white cardstock & spray it with three of those colours.

2. Dry thoroughly. If your cardstock is still damp it won't cut properly 

(& you'll get very pretty coloured dies!) Place butterfly dies

 on your cardstock & cut with a die-cutting machine.

3. Now take three smaller pieces of white cardstock & spray each with one colour only. Leave plenty of white cardstock showing on these ones as white helps to lighten the page.

4.Lay your butterfly dies on top. By this stage you should have some idea of whether 
you want more larger or smaller butterflies so adjust your cutting accordingly.

5. You can see in this picture the different results you can get depending on where 

you place your dies. If a die doesn't cut properly, consider leaving some of the 

pieces attached to the die-cut shape, as I have with butterfly on the right. 

6. Once your butterflies are cut out, add them to your page and decorate with 

Liquid Pearls and cotton and scatter lovely bling in between them.

Coloured gauze is great for adding some texture and interest to the background.

I added beads to my stitching by simply gluing them on top.

Use two colours of Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts 

to create a two-toned effect on your title.

Scrap The Music

Hi there,

Gosh, I've been busy lately and just haven't had time to get to my poor blog. I've got so much scrappy stuff going on at the moment!

I can't share too much now but what I can share are some layouts that I made for one of my Workshop Secrets articles in Scrapbooking Memories magazine. My article was about how to take the best photos possible at music events and how to scrap them. It's often difficult to get great photos at these events so scrapping them can sometimes be a challenge.

Here's what I made:

I used bright colours in this to make the dark photo pop. Most of the products on this layout came from the lovely Katherine at Scrap Everything.

I made the 'spotlights' by spraying a white mist through a stencil and spraying it heavier towards the centre so it fades out at the edges.

Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens!

Hi everyone.

I hope you had a great weekend. I've been busy putting together a layout for this month's Scrap Around The World challenge. You can find the challenge here.

Here is the mood board for this month:

My take on this may not be a conventional one but I swear the subject matter was the first thing I thought of when I saw the mood board!

My layout:

Yep - that's a very brightly coloured rooster! My main source of inspiration from the mood board was the shoes. I was thinking that they look like bird cages and then I knew straight away which pictures to scrap! I then used the colours of the cotton reels as colour inspiration and added a feather on the arrow as a nod to the feathery hat the lady in white is wearing (plus it matches the rooster).

My journalling runs around the edge of the page and says how much the men in Bali love their roosters. We were in one village where a few people coloured their roosters with dye. This one was the best but he was inside his cage so it was quite hard to photograph him.

My background has a Prima diamond stamp (like the diamonds on the cage) pressed into texture paste then I've sprayed three colours of Dylsuions over the top. I stamped again over the top with white ink and highlighted some of the diamond shapes with pen.

I painted a wooden skewer and turned it into an arrow with a feather, ribbon and paper.

I tucked some Dusty Attic chipboard behind the photos to enforce the cage concept and added a few fun embellies.

I love this cute little guy!

Once Upon A Sketch

Hi again,

I've had a bit of extra time this month which I love cos I get the chance to catch up with some of my fave online challenges. I decided to enter the Once Upon A Sketch challenge this month. I adore this sketch. It's so me!

The theme is "The Men in our Lives". I chose a relevant photo of my husband so I could scrap about his passion for bike riding.

There are hexagons in the sketch and I used these extensively in this layout. I fussy-cut the hexagon paper into this shape, cutting some of the internal hexagons out for a peek-through effect. On the background are hexagons stamped with ink and others that have been stamped then topped with Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I've also splotched Dylusions ink sprays onto the background.

I used an Amy Tangerine stamp to create that bike wheel look. I love my new Thickers!

I put my journalling on a tag behind the photo so it didn't clutter the page.

I just picked up these Heidi Swapp word stamps yesterday. I love that they seem to add something special to the page.

Feelin' Groovy with Dusty Attic

Hi again,

I'm back with my January layout for The Dusty Attic. I've also submitted it for the January Punky Scraps Challenge.  The feature of this layout is a new chipboard design which has just been released. It's called Geometric Panel and it's amazing! As soon as I saw it I instantly thought 'retro' and knew which photos I wanted to use with it.

Here's my layout:

I love the riot of colour on this! Making that background isn't hard - here's what I did. I first took the full sheet of the Geometric Panel and laid it on my 12 x 12 white cardstock. I then sprayed Dylsuions sprays randomly over the chipboard. In effect, the chipboard became a stencil. I then removed the chipboard and it left that gorgeous background. A bonus is that I still have the full brightly coloured chippie shape to use on another project!

I then took a Geometric border, which matches the Geometric Panel, and painted this with Dusty In Colour paint in Soot. When it was dry I gave it a coat of Dusty In Colour Clear Gloss Varnish. I gave the Heart Arrows the same treatment.

I added some Celestial White Dusty In Bloom flowers which were a lovely simple flower to compliment this page.

To make the title I used some glitter Thickers plus some Doodlebug glitter letters and outlined them in black pen.  All the other embellishments were just the shapes taken from these letter packs.
