All Needles and Pins at Kraft Plus

Welcome to December and to a new challenge at Kraft Plus! This month, your challenge is to use Needles and Pins somehow in your kraft-based project. You can use the needles and pins themselves or you can add stitching or even just punched holes!

I came up with this:

I took some fun photos of my bestie and I one day when we were travelling together and they've been great to scrap.

I used the Needles and Pins theme in a few different ways. I stitched the title using my sewing machine. I'd never tried to do this before and it certainly was challenging, but I got there in the end. Note that I used a very short title to lessen the chance of a serious mistake! It didn't turn out perfect but it worked. I also used a pin on the butterfly beside it.

I also stitched a fancy border around the edges of the page. I made this by increasing and decreasing the size of the zig-zag stitches.

I had this pack of Kaisercraft embellishments sitting on my desk for a while. I wanted to use them but they were very little-girl themed and I have no little girls in my life at the moment. By only using certain items I was able to use them for a big-girl page instead!

I also dug out my old brads for this. I seem to be reaching for them a lot lately.

I hope you can join us at Kraft Plus this month. You can find the challenge here.

Happy scrappin'!

Lionfish!

Hello there! Have you seen the challenge at Kraft Plus yet? Let the word 'Mosaics' inspire you. Oohh, now that's got you thinking hasn't it?

Firstly, I'd like to thank the ladies at Paper Flourish for sending me an amazing package when I won a challenge. Guess what was inside? Mosaic patterned paper! To top it off there were also mosaic tiles and lots of other bits and pieces. With the exception of the alphas, I made this page entirely from the prize.

Unusually for me, I've scrapped on A4 sized paper because I think the album for this trip is going to be A4 sized. These photos were taken on an island in Indonesa called Seraya. I've never seen so many lionfish before. They were truly amazing!

I alternated between topping my squares with photos and mosaic tiles. I adore those tiles!

The blues and greens of the mosaic paper went perfectly with my underwater photos I thought.

Can you join in the challenge with us at Kraft PLus this month? You can find the challenge here..

Guesting at Kraft+

Hello there. I was thrilled to be asked by the absolutely fabulous Sandra to be a Guest Designer over at Kraft+ this month. I was also a bit concerned at first though cos kraft scares me a bit! My style is very colour-driven and I struggle to get them to work on kraft background sometimes. My solution was to use my gorgeous Colour Crush powders on white cardstock then cut out shapes and layer them onto the kraft. I love the result!

I'm also a little bit hooked on book paper at the moment and I loved that I could incorporate this into my page. The other great thing about working on kraft is that I can leave my chippies raw and they match the page. Too easy!

Another fave product I've used on this page is my Kaisercraft stitched circles stamp and die set. The banner stamp happens to be a Kaisercraft one too.

I hope you can play along at the Kraft+ challenge this month. Here's the challenge board:

A Tribute to Lost Art

Hello and welcome back! Today I have a layout to share for The Dusty Attic that I made as a tribute to an amazing man and his art.

Bruno is an incredibly talented artist and sculptor in Marysville, Victoria. We saw his work years ago and all our family loved it so much that we bought a statue that was a replica of a huge one in the main street of Marysville. A few years later, fires swept through the area killing many people and destroying much of Bruno's work, including the original statue. We are so glad that our little statue of the old bushwalker and his grandson continues to sit in our garden, forever watching the country around it.

Don't you just love these funky new frames from The Dusty Attic? I can see myself using a lot of these! That poppy is a fave chippy too. Poppies are my favourite flowers.

To make the background I scraped on a little Dusty Attic Navajo White paint then added some splashes of Tinby Designs Colour Crush and some stamping.

Here are a few closies:

The Dusty Attic products I used are:
Whimsy Frames #6 DA1562

Poppies DA1289

Dusty in Colour Paint
in Forrest, Navajo White
and Soot.

Dusty in Colour Clear
Gloss Varnish DA 0901

More Than Words in May

Hello there! Welcome back to my blog.

Today I'm sharing the layout I made for the new More Than Words challenge. The challenge word this month is "Moment" and the creative challenge is to use clocks, or parts of clocks, in your project. You can find the challenge here.

Here's what I made:

I was inspired by both the word and the creative challenge to use a photo of my daughter when she was going through a phase of dressing up in Japanese-inspired costumes. She had a lot of fun with this.

That chippie under the photo is a gorgeous Dusty Attic flourish. I simply painted it white. The clocks are a die.

The title is a Dusty Attic one. I painted it in two colours in a random way, just to be different!

I hope you can join our challenge this month! Here's the challenge board:

Dusty in December

Hello Dusty friends! I'm back with you today with my layout for The Dusty Attic  for December. Before I show you, did you know that you can win a $100 Dusty Attic voucher? Wouldn't that come in handy at this time of year? All you have to do is enter this month's challenge and be the winner!

Here's what I made:

I used the inspiration board in several ways. Firstly, here it is:

Isn't it beautiful? I used the word Bliss on my layout and took my cues for my photo choice from the cosy, relaxing scene. I started off using only the colours from the inspiration board, but I'm a teal fan and I just couldn't help adding a bit, then a bit more!

That long wriggly piece behind the photo is a waste piece! Never throw out any interesting shapes - you never know when they will come in handy!

I layered up the background with Dusty Attic texture paste, some Dusty Attic stencils and, of course, Dusty Attic paint! I added some Magicals for extra pow. I've used Tinby Designs Metallic Melts on the frame, words, squiggly waste piece and hearts. I love this effect!

Do you like the frame? - that's my own design! I love the funkiness of it.

Don't you just love these little hearts? They come in a pack of a mix of shapes and are fantastic value. You can use them on just about any project.

The triangles were made using a Dusty attic stencil that was made specifically for the escape2create retreat last year. I use it a lot!

The Dusty Attic products I used are:

Winged Frame Set DA 1343

waste piece from Lacy Border #3 DA 1344

Mini Hearts #2 DA 0990

Bookman ABC Set DA 0666

Mini ABC Set Lower DA 0862

Fan Stencil DA 1320

Texture Paste DA 1218

Dusty Attic paints in Oceania, Bisque, Pesto and Cranberry.

And of course, my ever-faithful....
Clear Gloss varnish DA 0901
(I use this to glue everything!)
