All Together at More Than Words!

Hello again and welcome back to my blog. The new challenge has been revealed over at More Than Words! The inspirational challenge word is 'Together' and the creative challenge is to use an ampersand. An ampersand is the 'and' symbol like this: &.

Here's what I created:

All that coppery colour is foil so this was so hard to photograph! After multiple attempts I let the light shine on part, but not all, of the page so you can see the variation in colour as the light plays across it. It's a Prima paper and I love this range.

I layered up elements from the paper range and added a few die-cuts and  textural elements behind.

I cut out many coppery elements from the papers and added some 13arts bling under the photo. My ampersand forms part of the title.

Here's the challenge board:

Are you able to join in the challenge this month? You can find all the details here.

Scrappy Chat Designs teams up with Kraft+!

Hello there! Today I'd like to share with you a layout I made using the gorgeous "Favourite Little Something" Kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. Scrappy Chat Designs is a sponsor over at Kraft + this month so I'm entering the challenge with this one too.

Here's the Kraft + inspirational photo. You also need to add yellow paint.

And here's what I made using this month's Scrappy Chat Designs kit:

I was inspired by the many vertical lines and the textural feel in the Kraft+ photo.

As usual, there are exciting and fabulous products in the Scrappy Chat Designs kit. Apart from the Kaisercraft and Prima papers, there are cardstock, straws, twine, Stampendous Lux Flakes and, my favourite, Faber-Castell Texture Luxe. This product is amazing! The gold is so intense yet still holds it's shape and body so well.

I added some yellow enamel dots from a previous kit and outlined them in black pen. If you don't have any enamel dots just paint some paper with yellow paint, punch out some circles and add Glossy Accents on top. Easy peasy!

To see how the other Arty Chics and I create our layouts why not become a member? Kits are still $39 + Postage with LOADS of value for you money, as it is like doing 3 classes - all in the comfort of your own home! Each premier kit comes with Video AND instructions to complete the three layouts. They feature many techniques with product that can be used well after the life of the kit. (With all of our kits you will have plenty of product and knowledge to add to future projects).

Included are all the products needed to complete the project with a list of additional basic items used such as ink/ paints/gesso/texture paste and colour sprays you will need out of your supplies

Sit Back, Relax and Breathe....

Well the school holidays are winding up here in Australia and I've had a very relaxing time. I hope you got a break too!

I'm in that relaxed, holiday mode so I thought I'd share a holiday pic. This one was taken on a previous holiday but there's still that same relaxed feeling about it. Because it's holiday time here, the team at Scrappy Chat Designs thought it would be a good time to show you how you can use up the leftovers from your various kits.

I went back to the Sea Breeze kit but also added some items from a number of other kits. Here's a sneak of what I came up with:

Experimenting with Scrappy Chat Designs

Hello there.

I've been doing some playing and experimenting with the latest kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. I'm being very careful to use the word 'experimenting' here cos sometimes things don't go as planned! I made this layout, made a video for it then, a few days later, the cool background I made started to fade! I've worked out what the problem is though and, for those Kit Club members who get the video, I will show you how to not let this happen to you :)

Here's a sneak of the layout:

Arty Backgrounds

Hi,

Today I'd like to share some layouts that I had published in Issue 27 of Australian Scrapbook Ideas magazine.

I wrote an article about creating arty backgrounds and this layout is full of backgrounds techniques! I have a step by step guide on how I made it in the magazine.

Here are some close ups:

The second layout in the article made the front page of the magazine! Woot!

I used some interesting layering techniques on this background. Again, full instructions are in the magazine. I hope you got to have a look!

I also have an article in the current edition of the magazine using the amazing Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. There are heaps of other interesting articles in there too. All projects have full instructions. You can't ask for more than that!

Happy Scrappin'!

Scrap Friends Challenge

I always have the best of intentions of submitting to online challenges, but never seem to find the time. I seem to have caught up this month so am thrilled to attempt a Scrap Friends challenge. I haven't done one for ages. I've been particularly trying to do a challenge on this site for a while as they have a seriously interesting DT and I love their sketches and colour challenges.

Me being the colour addict that I am, it seemed logical that I should go with the colour palette challenge. Here's this month's palette:

I was attracted to the deep pink and went straight to a gorgeous new Prima paper I had bought. I then ran with that idea but ended up with more green and less pink than originally planned. That's probably not a bad thing as the photo is of my daughter when she was very little and she now hates pink!

Here's my layout:

There's nothing quite as adorable as a sleeping child. The bg paper is Prima as are the gorgeous banners. To make the flower banner, I pulled out the centres from larger Manor House flowers and only used these. I then "tied them up" with satin ribbon.

Here are some close ups.

I inked each of those pieces of banner and attached them with double sides tape. I then very carefully glued the twine along the top. A labour of love I think!

Thanks for looking!

First Ever Manor House Retreat!

Hi everyone.

I have some exciting news. Manor House Creations is sponsoring a new scrapping retreat! It's coming up in October and I'll be there as part of the teaching team. I'll be doing Make and Takes, while Karen Shady, Beck Beattie and Trudi Harrison will be taking classes.

I've been to see the venue - it's terrific. It's near Bacchus Marsh and is set in a gorgeous rural setting. The accommodation is basic but comfy, there is plenty of scrapping space and you won't have to cook or look after anyone but yourself all weekend! We have got plenty of great ideas to make sure you have a great time. This is going to be so much fun!

Here's a flyer.

As you can see, Manor House Creations will have lots of lovely goodies and giveaways there. You can participate in as many classes as you like. We'll have more details about the classes closer to the date. If you're interested, get your name down early. Feel free to ask any of us any questions you might have.

Now, seeing we're talking Manor House Creations, here's a recent layout I made featuring their drop-dead-gorgeous flowers.

This is my beautiful niece Arabella. She's growing up so fast. I don't get to see her very often and was so pleased I got such a lovely photo of her last time we all caught up.

The paper is Prima and I love it! The banner is cut from one of the Prima sheets then I added the decorative trim around the edges of each flag. I made use of the bird near the top left corner and made it look like it's carrying the string of the banner in its beak.

Here's a close up of the main flower cluster.

I've used five different Manor House flowers here - Rue (watermelon), Wild Rose (sherbet), glitter mini roses (pink), Hayley (white) and Meadows. I've left the wire stems on some of the flowers and twisted them around a small paintbrush to create tendrils.

I hope you're inspired to find a beautiful friend or family member and make a memorable page about them!

Bye for now.

Happy New Year!

A big Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a fun New Year's Eve and have a wonderful 2013.

My brother and his family are visiting us for a week so I thought I'd quickly get a few layouts up on this blog while they're out. These have been published in Scrapbooking Memories. Please forgive me if I don't visit your blog this week as I'll be fairly busy here!

Here's a lovely one of my gorgeous nephew Archie. He so adores his dad.

The background is the packaging from a pack of Prima letters. There's a lot of Prima product on this layout. I had to keep these pics small as they were slightly out of focus. I fixed them a bit in photoshop but not enough to enable me to enlarge the photos any more than this.

Here's another favourite of mine. I love getting messy with paints and my daughter's clothes allow me to do this on pages about her!

I think the cut-out picture works really well here. I was actually forced into this by the fact that the mess in her bedroom was visible in the photo! I also enjoyed showing the details of what she was wearing, from the fake ear stretcher to the ripped stockings. I can certainly say that my daughter has very distinctive tastes in clothes!

These two layouts were both published in Scrapbooking Memories Vol 14, no 12.

This layout was published in Volume 15, No 1. This is one of the few layouts I've done about my husband. I'm not sure why I scrap many more layouts about the kids than my hubby. I know this is something we're all guilty of. I guess I'll only have the kids around for a few more years and perhaps I'm trying to make the most of them!

Here's the layout:

This layout is created entirely from office supplies. I had a bit of fun raiding Officeworks and my desk drawers for supplies! The background behind the photo is coloured sticky tape. Unfortunately, the colour's not very strong and I had to use many layers to make it show.

I hope you're all enjoying the school hols. It's about 42 degrees here today so we're not going anywhere....

Hooroo!
