December Mini Challenge at More Than Words

Welcome back! This is a mini post for the More Than Words Mini Challenge! Here's what I made for December:

I built a tag on top of a gift envelope. I'm going to give this to someone on Christmas Day. I love those baubles on a wire. They ancient but fabulous!

I know it's a tough time of year to be scrapping but maybe a quick Mini Challenge is just what you need!

Hope you can join us. You can find the challenge here.
Ho, ho, ho!

Happy scrappin'!

Dusty

Hello again friends! I have a layout to show you today that I made using some of my favourite Dusty Attic chippies. I had so much fun with this!

I absolutely love Dusty Attic's Whimsy Frames. I know I'll be using these again and again. There are plenty of different designs and I'm working my way through them all! I simply inked my frame in black ink to make it stand out from the bright, busy background. This is so quick and easy to do.

The background is a riot of colour and scraps - I love this edgy, arty style. It might look like I've thrown it all together but it actually takes me ages to get the balance of colour and weight right. The background is made using my current favourite stencil - the Scribble Circles. I just swiped gesso through it. I put all sorts of nick-nacks on top, like this cute little Dusty Attic bird.

I've painted my title in bold colours, again to help them stand out from the background. I mixed up my Dusty Attic fonts to add to that funky feel. I then painted the alphas with Clear Gloss Varnish to give the title a more polished look. I also ran a line of Clear Gloss Varnish around the inside edge of the frame.

The Dusty Attic products I've used are:

Kraft Plus

Hello! How are you getting on with the silly season so far? I hope it's more fun than fluster for you :)

Much to my surprise, I've had more scrapping time than usual lately so I decided to give the challenge at Kraft+ a go. I can't believe I've never entered this fabulous Aussie-based challenge before. It's open to anyone though, not just Aussies.

I've been playing with my Colour Crush powders again. I simply love them! Here's what I made:

The challenge was to be inspired by anything to do with "Home". I thought about it and decided to scrap about how thrilled my hubby and I are that the kids still love regularly coming home to see us, even though they both live in Melbourne. We took this selfie last week in an attempt to get a decent Christmas photo. This was the best of the bad bunch!

I used a brick stamp on the background to symbolise the solidness of home. I've been on a mission lately to use things from my scraps drawer - that's the drawer where I put all those little bits and pieces that I made for previous projects but didn't use. I did a bit of fussy-cutting from some papers I found in there.

All the pink, red and yellow pieces are created with Colour Crush powders. I adore this look! I'm also having a bit of a book paper fetish lately too so I had to add some of that in.

Are you going to join in at Kraft+ this month? Here's the mood board:

Breathtaking

Hello again my scrappy friends. I'm back today with a layout I made using the stunning December mood board at The Dusty Attic. The mood board photos are rich and luxurious so I thought I'd follow their lead.

I simply adore that star border! It could be used for birthdays, Christmas, anything really! I sprayed the Dusty Attic flowers with silver spray to match my layout and painted all the chippies, including that stunning title, in silver too. Of course I used Clear Gloss Varnish to glue down those fine chippies. The nozzle is perfect for jobs like this.

And yep, there it is again - another Mini Heart Button! This time I covered it in the purple paper to match the layout and added some funky silver thread to the middle. Tucked underneath is an arm of an Ornate Cross. I just keep bits like this that are left over from other projects. You never know when a cool shape like this might work on something else!

I hunted through my (somewhat extensive!) stash but couldn't find any silver background paper. I did find some old Mistables paper though so I sprayed it with silver mist and viola! - a gorgeous background appeared in front of my eyes! I stitched the framework around the photo area then swiped Tinby Designs Colour Crush across the area to highlight it. I did the same under the title.

Why don't you join in the challenge this month? There is a whopping $100 Dusty Attic voucher up for grabs! Here's the totally gorgeous mood board:

Traditions at More Than Words

Hello and welcome back! This month we're focusing on Traditions over at More Than Words. What does the word 'Traditions' make you want to create? You also have to add something handmade to your project.

At this time of year, the word 'Traditions' would make many of us think of Christmas but I took a different view. Here's what I made:

We do have Christmas traditions in our house but I've wanted to scrap about our family's Doctor Who obsession for a while. We used to look forward to Sunday nights when we would all snuggle up on the couch and watch Doctor Who together. We would criticise the Daleks and roll our eyes at the corny bits but we loved it anyway. My kids were a lot younger then and it was a great way to have some fun family time.

I used Tinby Designs Colour Crush to make the swirly, splattered outer-space scene. My handmade touches are the wire 'planets' and I hand-drew cracks onto the universe background with Liquid Pearls.

Here's the challenge board. Are you going to join in this month? You can find the challenge here.

Happy scrappin'!
