A Dusty February

Hi and welcome back to my blog.

Today I have my new layout for the February mood board challenge. I hope you can join in this month. Don't forget the winner receives
$100 !!!
to spend with Dusty Attic! You can choose from chipboard, paints and flowers. What a prize!

Here's the gorgeous mood board:

And here's what I made:

I took my cues from many items on the mood board - the sunrise/sunset photo, the colours and the moody feel.

I used my Dusty Attic chippies in many different ways. I coloured the butterfly, birds, small vine frame and the flourish with Dusty Attic paints as well as inks. I used a large vine frame as a stencil under the butterfly and sprayed it with black mist. I painted the tile alphas and the Hello World circle with white paint then used a black marker to highlight the letters.

Here are the Dusty Attic products I used:

VinefFrames #1 DA1191

Butterfly flourish DA 0019

Word Disks #1 DA 1195

Vintage Flourish DA 1138

Tile ABC set DA 1119

mini Seagulls DA 1176

Dusty in Colour paints

Thanks so much for dropping by! I look forward to you joining in our challenge.

Happy scrappin'!

A Colourful Scrap Around The World

Hello there!

I must tell you about the scrappy holiday I just had. For the first time ever I took my scrapping gear with me on holidays to the beach. The weather often isn't great there so I knew I'd have some spare time.

We rented a house that I had only seen online and it turned out to be the perfect scrapping place! There was a huge room that looked out onto the sea and plenty of cupboard space to store my stash. It was perfect!

Anyway, I had a ball creating layouts and here's one I made for this month's Scrap Around The World challenge which you can find here.

Here's the stunning mood board by Tatiana Sidorenko. I adore it!

I decided to go with the hair theme as I'm constantly amazed by our daughter's different hair colours. Here's what I created:

I'm a bit in love with bling at the moment so some just had to go on this layout. I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine to create the dribbles and to colour the alphas and used Jillibean Soup Mini Placemats behind the photos.

I hope you can join in the challenge this month. there are so many yummy prizes to be won!

Once Upon A Sketch

Hi again,

I've had a bit of extra time this month which I love cos I get the chance to catch up with some of my fave online challenges. I decided to enter the Once Upon A Sketch challenge this month. I adore this sketch. It's so me!

The theme is "The Men in our Lives". I chose a relevant photo of my husband so I could scrap about his passion for bike riding.

There are hexagons in the sketch and I used these extensively in this layout. I fussy-cut the hexagon paper into this shape, cutting some of the internal hexagons out for a peek-through effect. On the background are hexagons stamped with ink and others that have been stamped then topped with Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I've also splotched Dylusions ink sprays onto the background.

I used an Amy Tangerine stamp to create that bike wheel look. I love my new Thickers!

I put my journalling on a tag behind the photo so it didn't clutter the page.

I just picked up these Heidi Swapp word stamps yesterday. I love that they seem to add something special to the page.

I hope you can join in the competition this month.

Happy scrappin'!

Scrap Around The World Layout

Hi everyone,

Gosh I seem to be posting so much more than usual lately. I've been busy!

I've made a layout for this month's challenge at Scrap Around The World. As soon as I saw the mood board I knew I just had to have a go. That mood board is so me! Maybe that's cos it was created by the uber talented Leonie Neal-Dawson, who has a similar fixation with bright colours to me. Here's the mood board and sketch:

I have thought of sooo many ideas from that mood board but sadly, I only have time for one layout. Using the sketch is optional and it didn't work for what I wanted to do, although I did use the circular element. The two left hand pics were the ones that influenced me the most. I used the bright, bold colours of the paint picture but my design feature came largely from the first pic. Somehow, those butterflies kept  making me think of hearts. I was keen on that transparent look too so I used watercolours. I used them strongly though, in keeping with the second image.

Here's my layout:

I spent hours making this layout! This is mainly because I started out with a different idea using the watercolour paints to make the hearts. After much effort I had to accept that it wasn't going to work! I eventually just put it all aside telling myself that I might be able to use it for something else another time. To make this version, I traced some hearts from a TCW stencil with textas then used watercolours to paint the smaller heart inside.

The circle shape is a separate piece of cardstock that I ran dribble lines of Dylusions ink sprays down. I then sprayed white Dylusions over the dribbles to make them fade into the background more so the hearts would be the feature. I stitched the circle shape, cut it out then stitched my hearts to the dribble lines. Here's a close up:

That background paper is an American Crafts Sketchbook paper, which is one of my all time favourite ranges. I added some stamping to it and used watercolours to colour the flowers.

The title is influenced by the third picture in the mood board. I painted the chipboard letters black, and added black Wow! glitter. I adhered this to a section I cut off an older chippie which I painted white. Underneath there's a layer of this fabulous textured ribbon that I found recently.

I love scrapping these older pics of my kids. It's a great reminder of how much has changed in the last 12 years.

I'm not sure if this was a great time to write this post because about 20 minutes ago that sweet little blond girl just drove herself off to schoolies week! With her hair dyed black, seemingly a year's supply of clothes and a box of alcohol she has just headed down the coast for a week of fun with four other friends. It's the first time she has ventured away on her own and my hubby and I are having a bit of trouble with the letting go thing. We know she'll be safe - she has a great group of friends who are all good kids - but we won't be there with her.

OK - that's enough emotion for today! Hope you can join in this month's challenge.
