Hi there.
Gosh, so sorry I've been MIA lately. I'm frantically trying to get ready for the Brisbane Scrapbooking Expo. I have the kits ready to go but am still working out what to do for my display. Am working on something now - just hope it turns out as I envisage it!
Meanwhile, I thought I'd share the other two layouts that I made for my article in the current edition of Australian Scrapbook Ideas magazine. I wrote about how to incorporate rainbows into your layouts. I showed you the first layout here. Here are the other two:
Full instructions on how to make these are in the magazine.
If you're going to the expo, drop in and say hi. I'll be teaching in Classroom 7 and demonstrating at the Studio M Designs stand.
Happy scrappin'!

A 13 arts Selfie Challenge
Hello!
For the first time in ages, I have finally got around to entering an online challenge! I saw this one over at 13arts where the challenge is to scrap a photo using a selfie. You can find the challenge here.
I started rummaging through the few selfies I have, then had a brainwave. The best selfies in the world are those taken by my daughter (I may be a little biased there). There was nothing in the rules to say the selfie had to be of me so I used a classic selfie she took when she used to love dressing up in Gothic Lolita clothes. I love that these photos give me the opportunity to do some creative scrapping to match the pics.
Here's my layout - Gothic Lolita Selfie:
Thanks so much for dropping by.

I loved creating the background for this. Apart from the 13arts background paper, there is no other paper on here. I created that teal framework using stamping, stenciling, paints, Silks, stitching and pen. I then layered up large alphas to create the subtitle plus add detail to the background framework.
I highlighted some of the designs on the 13arts paper with paints and used the Silks as a wash over some areas.
I treated the Dusty Attic chippies with ink and Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I love the grungy look this creates. That chippie is a stunner - it's called French Flourish #2.

All the Colours of the Rainbow
Hello again!
In the latest copy of Australian Scrapbook Ideas magazine I have written an article on how to use rainbows as inspiration for your layouts. I really had fun with this one.
Here's one of my layouts:
I love the bright, bold colours on this. All the details on how I made this page are in the magazine. I hope you can read the article!
If you're going to the Brisbane Scrapbooking Expo you'll be able to see this layout in real life as the tutors each have a display there.
Happy scrappin'!

So Proud
Hi there! I'm here with you today to share my layout using the gorgeous May mood board from The Dusty Attic as my inspiration.
Here's the mood board. Don't you just love the colours?
One of my new fave chippies is this French Flourish, which I coated in silver Beck BT's Tinby Design Metallic Melts. It's stunning!
Here's the mood board. Don't you just love the colours?
Don't forget there is a $100 prize pack up for grabs over on the blog here.
I just had to use those gorgeous teals and greys, but I also added some red for some pops of contrast. Here's what I made:
I only used half of a flourish here. I cut part of the remainder off to add to the title cluster. I coated the title with silver ink and a sprinkling of Carbon Metallic Melts to give that grungy, mottled appearance. Dusty Attic have just released a heap of new word packs with great words like this one. Gosh they make creating titles easy! That gorgeous stamp is from IndigoBlu.
That framework behind the photo is actually the waste from an Old Wooden Fence chippie. A coat of silver Metallic Melts and it takes on a whole new lease of life! I also added a house from the Main Street set and a Him & Her chippie on the other side. To get that funky stenciling on the background, I mixed Soot Dusty in Colour paint with impasto and spread it through the stencil.
Dusty Attic products I used are:
Old Wooden Fence small DA1166
(waste only)
Main Street DA0408
Him & Her Border DA1065
French Flourish 2 DA0274
Word Pack #12 DA1268
Dusty in Colour Mountain Meadow, Capri and Soot.
Happy scrappin'!

Fighting Mad!
Hello scrappy friends. I'm here today with some awesome Dusty Attic goodies to share with you.
I believe I'm a fairly calm person and I rarely get angry, but I was VERY angry when I made this layout! I don't think I've ever scrapped before while I've been angry so it was an interesting experience. I must say that I found it very therapeutic.
Soapbox warning here! If you just want to look at the layout, skip this section! In a nutshell, I work part-time on a voluntary basis, trying to get better regulations in place for people living near wind turbines. Most people would be very shocked if they knew how little protection there was for those people. Many wind projects are not compliant with the regulations but nobody polices this which is really bizarre. If a night club was making noise at 2am you could call the police and/or the EPA and they would do something about it straight away. If a wind turbine is making noise at 2am you can only call the wind company the next day, who may or may not respond at some time in the future. We know of people who lived with a faulty, screeching turbine for over a year before the company did anything about it.
I think wind turbines have their place, but that place is not near people's homes. The reason I was so mad yesterday is that we found out that the approved, but unbuilt, project near us just got another 5 year extension to its permit to build. Plus the company have applied to increase the height of the turbines to over 160 metres. That's higher than a 50-story building. And there are 62 of them. This is a rural landscape, not an industrial one. I hate that someone in Melbourne just ticks a box and decides our future and we get no say in it.
Anyway, that's enough ranting for now! Here's my layout:
As you can see I got very verbal on this one! I just let it all out. I didn't even think about what I was writing - except I did have to stop once to check how to spell 'bureaucrat'!
I love how the gate came up on this one. To decorate the shrubs on the ends, I first applied impasto with my finger in a dabbing motion to create rough texture. You could use texture paste or any similar product. When the impasto was dry, I dipped an old, stiff paintbrush into Forrest paint and dabbed it in an up and down motion onto the rough surface to add even more texture. I then did the same thing with Pesto paint. Dusty paints dry so quickly - I love them!
I inked the gate with a rust-coloured ink then applied three different colours of Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts to get that rusty, weathered look. I used the same treatment on the title, only this time I used two colours.
It is possible to stitch chipboard down like I did here. You need to glue alphas and other small pieces in place first though as the foot of the machine tries to push them away. Just take it slow and steady.
The gorgeous house is from the Main Street set. I adore this set. I've finished the page off with some Dusty in Bloom flowers and a beautiful branch.
Thanks for looking today and putting up with my frustrations. Next time life gives you a bum steer, think about venting on paper - it's a great release!

I adore the gelati colours in this. I took my inspirations from the colours but also from the picture of the ice-cream. The idea of licking an ice-cream reminded me that I had a very old photo of my daughter licking the beaters after her nana had made a cake. This photo is poor quality but still begged to be scrapped.
Here's what I made:
