Ewww! A Doggy Kiss!

Hi there!

I have a layout to show you that I made a little while ago using Glitz Design's Wild & Free papers for Scrap Everything. This is such a distinctive range and I absolutely love it! It comes with letters, stickers and heaps of interesting features that can be cut out and added to your page. All I added to this was a few bits and pieces I had lying around.

Here's my page:

My niece Maddy was obviously torn between smiling for the camera and going "Ewwww!"!

The Wild & Free papers have a very American Indian feel to them so I continued this with my theme of arrows. I decorated a wooden skewer with mists and beads and added chevrons and feathers at the ends.

I cut the paper beneath the photo to represent Indian fringing and continued the arrows, beads and feathers throughout the layout.

It's All About The Techniques.

Hi! I hope you had a wonderful long weekend.

Today I'd like to share a layout that's all about techniques. I'm using the April Scrappy Chat Designs kit. This page is a little less embellished than I would normally create, however I wanted to clearly show you the different techniques that you can use with this kit. I didn't want to hide the techniques with embellishments!

Firstly, my layout:

I have written up all the techniques in my post on the Scrappy Chat Designs site here.

A few close ups of the finished layout:

Brisbane Expo and Once Upon A Sketch

Hi there. I hope you had a great Easter break.

Things have been busy here as I've been getting my products organised for the class I'm teaching at the Brisbane Scrapbooking Expo. If you haven't looked at the classes yet, here's a link. I'm on each day at noon til 2pm. Here's a sneak peek, although keep in mind that this class is a freestyle one where the accent is on learning ways in which layouts can be put together as well as learning new techniques and playing with products. You can choose to make your layout look nothing like this if you want!

I've also been scrapping over the Easter break and this month I thought I'd have a go at the Once Upon A Sketch challenge. The journalling theme this month is  "An event that changed my life". I wanted to scrap about our daughter leaving home to go to university. I know it's a big change in her life but it's easy to forget that it's a big change in our lives too. We miss her. Life is just different without her. The house is cleaner though!

I took photos of her suitcases of clothes when she was packing as it wasn't easy to get photos of her when she was concentrating on what to pack. Here's my layout:

I love the colours on this.

Here are some closies:

The papers are a mix of old and new ones and I've got some gorgeous Dusty Attic chipboards on there. Hope you can join in at OUAS this month.

In a Dusty Attic with Connor

Hi everyone.

I hope you're having a fabulous week and getting lots of scrapping done.

I have a new layout for The Dusty Attic for you:

I love these 12 x 12 chippies. They make such unique pages. The Dusty Attic has a variety of these, all quite different to each other and all fabulous! I loved that Connor's age was one of the numbers on the chippie so I highlighted this and incorporated it into my design. There are lots of other numbers on there too (some are hidden under my pic) so you could find someone's age on there that is relevant to your family. If not, cut a couple of numbers out (they are all represented) and combine them to make the number you want.

Using a 12 x 12 chippie like this kind of gives you three layers to work with. Cool! I just did a bit of simple stamping on my background paper and put most of my work on the top layer.

Don't you just love those Dusty Attic balloons? I adore them! I covered the large balloon, the Flourish Frame, the Love This arrow and the number 17 in Dusty in Colour paints and Tinby Metallic Melts.

The Dusty Attic products that I used are:

Number Grid large

Hot Air Balloons #1

Flourish Frame Set

mini Hot Air Balloons

Love This, Love That Arrows

Alabaster and Capri Dusty in Colour Paints
Dusty in Colour Clear Gloss Varnish

Happy Scrappin!

A Dusty Attic/Scrappy Chat Designs challenge

Hi all,

Well the wintry weather has just arrived here and I don't like it already! And we have about six long months to go....

On a brighter note, I've had a lot of fun using my latest kit from Scrappy Chat Designs as the base for this month's sketch challenge at The Dusty Attic.

Firstly, here's the fabulous sketch from Nadia. For once I managed to stick to it fairly closely! I'm a shocker for getting sidetracked from sketches and then my final layout looks nothing like the sketch!

And here's my layout:

I was trying to take passport photos of Connor at home. I've done it before and the ones of my daughter worked this time but not the ones of Connor. The lady at the post office told me that his jawline wasn't defined enough! I should have gone to another post office....

The cardstock, stamps (I love these!), Tinby Metallic Melts, Pink Paislee paper and Izink were all from the March kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. How cool are these products!

The Dusty Attic chipboards are:
  • Vintage Camera small - DA1072
  • Geometric Corners - DA1030
  • Chevron Panel small - DA1068
  • Around the World - DA1036 (I just used part of the edges from this)
  • Bookman ABC Set - DA0666
  • Mini ABC Set upper - DA0861
  • Alabaster Dusty in Colour Paint - DA0902
  • Dusty in Colour Clear Gloss Varnish - DA0900
To make the background, I first swished around some Alabaster paint then applied some Gelatos over the top. I mixed some Izink with water in a spray bottle but there wasn't much in the container and it splattered rather than sprayed. I love this effect. I then used a stencil I had recently bought and added some texture with texture paste.

I framed the photos with scraps left over from when I cut up an Around the World Chippie for another project. The chevron strip on the right side under the photos is the negative section left over from when I took out the chevrons for the left hand side. I think these 'waste' strips make awesome embellishments! Using Dusty Attic paints and Tinby Metallic Melts, I faded the colours of the chevrons from blue through to white.

Isn't that camera chippie amazing! I love the detail on it.

I also used the Metallic Melts to colour the Geometric Corners and used blue and black inks with those fantastic Kaisercraft stamps to add more activity to the background.

I must confess, I had a near disaster with that title! I had painted it with the Izink and wondered how it would react with Dusty Attic's Clear Crackle Varnish. I hadn't used the crackle for a while and the nozzle had blocked so I gave it a good squeeze. (You can see what's coming can't you?). SPLAT! The lid blew off and crackle flew onto my walls,  my window and my set of drawers! After my initial panic I soon realised that it all cleaned up with just a cloth and water. Phew! Meanwhile, a large blob had fallen onto the title so I just kid of smudged it around a bit. It tended to remove the colour in the Izink (any water-based product does) but it did manage to crackle it and I love the final result!

Happy scrappin'!

Exciting News!

Ohhhhh I have some exciting news! I'll be teaching at the Scrapbooking Expo at Brisbane in June! It's been a bit of a goal of mine to teach there as it's the largest scrap expo in the country so I'm thrilled. Bookings are all done online here. Full class information will be available online from Monday April 14 and class bookings will go live on Wednesday April 16 at 10am Eastern Standard Time.

Meanwhile, I have some work to show you. These were published in Scrapbooking Memories magazine, Vol 16, No 7.

I had a lot of fun experimenting with this page. I had just bought a set of Gelatos and wasn't really sure what I could or couldn't do with them so I just played. I used texture paste through the gorgeous Crafters Workshop stencil. When it was dry I simply rubbed on the Gelatos. I now know a bit more and would do a neater job next time but it wasn't bad for my first effort I thought.

Oh that girl can be cheeky when she chooses!

My favourite Kaisercraft stamp also makes an appearance and I've added just a few fussy cut pieces from American Crafts' Amy Tangerine Sketchbook range, an oldie but such a goodie.

My second piece is something a little different. When I was on the Manor House Creations design team last year I helped out on the stand at the Brisbane Scrapbooking Expo and we all wore flapper headbands. I knew what I would be wearing so I coloured a flower to match my outfit. I then cut off those ribbons that they have inside clothes to hang them by and used them on my headband so it coordinated perfectly with my outfit!

Thanks for looking. If you are coming to the expo at Brisbane, be sure to say hi!

Happy scrappin'!

Happy

Hi there,

I have a layout for Scrap Everything today. I was sent some really interesting products and had loads of fun experimenting with them.

Here's my layout:

Isn't that photo adorable? It's one my sister-in-law took of one of her daughters. The Carta Bella paper was the perfect background for it.

Now the interesting thing about this layout is that I have only used two key products to make it - one is the pack of Fabscraps French Heritage Stickers and the other is a sheet of X-press It Sticky Barc. If you're not familiar with this second product I will explain further down.

Firstly the stickers - these are transparent so they can be used in a number of ways. Firstly I just placed two of the stickers directly onto my background paper. Their transparency means that you can still see the paper through them. It almost looks like they're part of the paper design. I really love this look. It's kind of vintage and funky at the same time!

I then backed the remaining stickers with white cardstock and placed them randomly around my photo and beyond. In keeping with the aged look of the layout I distressed the edges and outlined each sticker with a brown pen, raising some of them up on foam tape.

Next I used the X-press It Sticky Barc. I love this product! It is real wood (very thin!) backed with super strong adhesive. You can stamp on it like I did or you can paint it, ink it or whatever you like. You can just cut it using scissors like it's paper.

To make my butterflies, I simply stamped on the Sticky Barc with black ink and cut out the images. I removed the backing from the centre part of the butterflies only so the wings could stand free and 'fly'.

I then stamped the word 'happy' onto it and cut this out. What a simple and unique title!

I could also have used a die cut machine to cut out a title or embellishments using the Sticky Barc.

I then just added my journaling around the photo and a bit of stamping and ragged stitching.

This page really was so simple and easy to make. If any of Katherine's customers would like more info on how I made something just drop me a line in the comments.

Happy scrappin'!
