A Dusty Journal!

Hello!

I'm back with you today to share a journal that I altered. I've been doing a 12-week fitness challenge at a gym and we have to keep a journal for it. We are split into teams and they told us to decorate our journals in our team colours. As you can imagine, asking a scrapper to decorate a journal was like asking the sun to shine or the wind to blow - it's just what we do naturally!

Here's what I made:

I used Dusty Attic paints on the background through a Dusty Attic stencil. I then splashed some Magicals around. Here's what the first layers looked like.

I added a few more layers of paints and Magicals to get the final effect.

I LOVE this chippie scroll. I simply painted it in silver and let it shine!

It's quite hard to stencil on a surface that has already been stenciled on as the surface becomes uneven and wet mediums seep under the stencils, so I stenciled the butterflies onto a piece of white cardstock, cut them out and glued them onto the cover. It was slow work but I love the white borders around the butterflies as it helps them to stand out from the background.

These are the Dusty Attic products I used:

Decorative Frame #1 DA0207

Circuit Stencil DA 1322

Butterflight Stencil DA1493

Dusty in Colour Paints in Oceania,
Denim, Dusty Pink and Silver

Bookman ABC Set DA0666

Happy scrappin'!

PS - I've lost 7 kilos in the challenge so far and am sooo much fitter! Woohoo!

A Mini Challenge Tag

Hello again. I can't believe it's been two weeks since I posted in here. I've been sooo busy!

The first ever PaperArts Expo was held in Melbourne. I taught at it and it was great fun. It was wonderful to meet so many fabulous ladies there. The event was very well run. I look forward to them holding another one next year!

It's time again for the new More Than Words Mini Challenge. The challenge is live now and you can find it HERE. I made a tag this month.

I can't believe I used purple - I think that's twice in a couple of months! It just seemed to work on this.

I adore the fabulous Dusty Attic feather chippies. You can find them HERE.

And here's the challenge board:
I sure hope you can join in this month!

Some R & R with The Dusty Attic

Hello and welcome back!

We recently had a beach  holiday and it was so great to just get out and unwind. I love this photo I took of my daughter just enjoying the water.

I used the chippies to support the photo in this layout. They didn't need a lot of embellishing as I wanted to keep the page quite natural-looking. I simply coated the Bubbles with gesso and kept the remaining chippies bare.

I popped the middles out of the Bubbles which gave me extra circle chippies - bonus! I used some of the circles here but kept most of them for a future project or two. I use the flying seagulls a lot - I love these!

The white corrugated card is also available from The Dusty Attic. This is so versatile! I love that it adds so much depth to a page so easily.

The Dusty Attic products I used are:
Bubbles DA1509

Word Pack #10 DA1266

Seagulls DA1042

Mini Seagulls DA1176

Corrugated Card DA0830

April Challenge at More Than Words!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. The first of the month is always an exciting time because that means it's time for the new More Than Words reveal!

Firstly, I'll show you what I've made for it:

The photo was taken by my brother. His work takes him to many remote places in Australia. This photo was taken on the North-West Coastal Highway, a few hundred kilometres from Karratha in Western Australia. I think it's amazing!

You're not going to guess from my layout what the challenge is so I'd better show you!

The challenge is to be influenced by the word "Escape" and to use something from the Mood Photo. I looked at the Mood Photo and thought of wide open spaces and then knew exactly which photo to use. There's even a solitary tree in the photo. I don't think you can escape to more wide open spaces than outback Australia!

I felt that the bronze colour of my metal embellishments suited the rustic feel of the photo so I didn't alter them at all. I layered them up, mixing brands and styles for a rough and ready look. Most of them came from a purchase I made at my2angels a while ago though.

I stencilled the sunburst under the photos first to emphasise the sun in the photo. Scraps of paper and a few stickers added splashes of rich colour.

I made the word "Sunburnt" by putting alpha stickers on a piece of paper then stamping over the top of them. The raised stickers prevented the ink from reaching close to the letters and thus left a white border around them.

I hope you're able to join us at More Than Words this month. You can find the challenge HERE.

Dusty in March

Hello friends! I'm back with you today to share my creation for the March mood board over at The Dusty Attic. Are you going to give the challenge a go this month? You could win a $100 Dusty Attic voucher! Be quick though - you don't have much time left!

Here's my layout:

The colours in this are so different to my usual colour choices but I love them! Here's the mood board. Now you'll see why I chose these colours.

I was influenced by the colours, the 'journey' theme (I used the mood board wording as my title) and the photo second from the left at the bottom (I added hessian under my globe chippie then tied it in place with string.)

My son left home last month to go to uni and, as much as it was heartbreaking to see him go, I was so proud of him because he was so confident about it. I thought he would be terrified but he was very casual about it all and has had a ball at uni. As parents, I think we sometimes worry over nothing!

The wording on the mood board was so appropriate for this layout that I tore it out and added it as my title

There are lots of different chippies on this page. I found I had to limit myself so as not to overwhelm the photo!

There is lot of mixed media on this page. The hessian was an afterthought and it covered a lot of the background work up. Still, I opted to go with it cos I liked it!

The background paper is from Fabrika Dekoru. Isn't it gorgeous?

The Dusty Attic products I used are:
Creative Script Stencil DA1495

Cogs Stencil DA1328

Dusty in Colour - Hot Chocolate DA0923

Around the World DA1036

Vintage Keys DA0392

Trellis Large DA1031
(I used both the trellis and the diamonds from the centres)

Argyle Panel Small DA1011
(I used the diamonds from the centres only)

Paris Post Mark DA0320

Him & Her Border DA1065

It's Mini Challenge Time at More Than Words!

Hello there. Are you ready for the March Mini Challenge over at More Than Words!

Continuing on with my recent ATC addiction, here's what I made for the challenge:

So have you guessed the challenge word yet? Yep! It's 'Happy"! And can you guess why I wrote these particular words? If you're a regular follower of my blog you will probably know but scroll down to the end of this post if you're not sure ;)

There are heaps of layers on this one, each using different products. There are Magicals, then gesso through a Dusty Attic stencil, then Colour Blast paste through a different Dusty Attic stencil, then paints, pen and a few different Dusty attic chippies. Phew!

Here's how the Mini Challenge works:

The Mini Challenge runs on the last week of each month and is for cards, tags and ATCs only. (ATCs, or Artist Trading Cards, are small works of art, about 2.5 by 3.5 inches or 64 x 89mm). This challenge requires you to use a specific word on your project. We must see the actual word. You have only one week - until the last day of the month - to enter, so be quick!

Entry for the Mini Challenge is only via our Facebook page under the relevant post.

The winner will receive a $25 voucher from Dusty Attic, our fabulous Mini Challenge sponsor. And just to sweeten the deal, all our prizes include free shipping to anywhere in the world!

I sure hope you can join in!

Happy scrappin'!
