A CSI Challenge

Hi there!

I thought I'd join in a challenge this month and the one at CSI caught my eye. We held a party for my dad's 90th birthday a couple of weeks ago and mum surprised him with some gear from his beloved Bulldogs football team. The photos were quite funny, especially the one where dad put both the beanie and the cap on at once!

 In keeping with the Bulldogs theme, I swiped red, white and blue paint across the page. I added red, white and blue embellishments but had to be careful to not overwhelm the page. I made my title in gold to break up the colours a bit.

My journalling runs along the top of the page.

I love crazy stitching and have added heaps on this page. The messier stitching is, the more I like it!

I scattered stars arund the page because my dad's a superstar!

I solved the case by using:

• Grid pattern paper
• Metal stars
• Dimensional letters (Thickers)
• Thread
• The red, white and blue from the colour scheme

A Colourful Challenge!

Hello there! My apologies for being awol online lately. I've been travelling again :)

I'm home now and have loved getting back to my scraproom. My first project is for More Than Words where the challenge this month is to be inspired by the word ORIGINS and to use YOUR COUNTRY COLOURS on your project. Wow - this is the sort of challenge I love to do! Your country colours can be anything you choose that somehow represents your country or area - it could be a national flower or a state flag or even an animal. I chose the red, white and blue of Australia's flag.

In Australia we have a chant that's used at international sporting events. It goes "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi!" I know it sounds crazy but it's a bit of fun. I used the three "Aussie" words to describe the three of us in a foreign country.

I added some stars to the project as there are stars on our flag and I even found an Australian flag in a newspaper ad to use. The background is made with Tinby Designs Colour Crush and the chippies are from The Dusty Attic.

Red, Black and White - on Kraft!

Ooohh, I love the challenge at Kraft Plus this month! The challenge is to use Red, Black and White on your kraft background. This is a really stunning colour combo.

Here's what I came up with:

When you're using colours like this, it can be more effective to create a page that isn't too busy I find. That way, the colours are allowed to have the maximum impact.

I created a crazy punched border down the right hand side near my rather long title.

I have a thing about cut out papers with a circular element sitting in the cut out lately.

I created white ink splashes and stamped with white paint.

Smile at More Than Words

Hello there! It's getting towards the end of the month which means it's Mini Challenge time again at More Than Words. The word to use on your card, tag, ATC or postcard this month is "Smile".

I made a tag stack:

I found a stack of tags in my stash that were taken from some clothing I bought. Each tag had a tab at the bottom of it in different places. I altered bits and pieces of the tags at the back and used the front tag as a base for my new one.

To Market, To Market....

Hello again.

Have you seen the new challenge at Kraft Plus? The challenge is to be inspired by nursery rhymes! Now this one got me thinking - there are no young children in my life at the moment so what would I scrap about? Besides, I'm trying to scrap travel photos at the moment. I decided to search online and I found the answer.....

Yes! "To market, to market to buy a fat pig. Home again, home again jiggity jig."

We visited the most amazing market in Mexico. It was up the hills and many people still wore traditional clothes.

Even though this is a double-page spread, it's actually two pages, each telling a different story.

Page 1: To Market, To Market

I typed my journalling for a change. 

I wanted this to have loads of colour so I used different coloured alphas for the titles.

Page 2: Home Again, Home Again.

This page describes a unique experience we had travelling home from the market.

I'm so glad I was able to record memories of such a wonderful day.

Happiness Is......

Hello again :)

Over at More Than Words this month, the challenge is to be inspired by the word "Happiness" and to use a gorgeous sketch by Edith Coulter. Edith's sketches - and her work - are always inspiring.

Here's what I came up with:

I was looking at my photos with the word "Happiness" in mind and I was struck by how much I adore the colours of the walls in a hotel we stayed in in Mexico. I LOVE colour. It really does make me happy!

Here's the challenge board and Edith's beautiful and versatile sketch:

I put two photos into each photo panel so I could capture the range of wall colours. I don't think I have ever put my title between photos like this so this was a bit of a challenge for me. When I found this funky Dusty Attic frame in my stash though I knew it would be perfect for the job!

I tucked bits and pieces of all sorts of things behind and around the photos. I keep all those leftover pieces from other projects in drawers and I'm forever delving into them. I never know what I might find!

These cute little houses are fussy cut from an old paper. I love them!

Another Dusty Attic chippie - I covered this heart in paper and painted the dots on for a bit of extra oomph.

Look!

Welcome back!

The new Mini Challenge word at More Than Words for July is "Look". Use this on a card, tag, ATC or postcard and add it to our Facebook page by the end of the month to be in the running for some very cool prizes. Be quick!

I found this quote online and thought it was awesome. There are lots of wings on the postcard - chippie and die-cut ones to match the quote. The stars also tie in with the quote. The silver and pale blue colour scheme is cool, however it was very difficult to photograph and the colours here are not exactly as they are in real life.

Bollywood Time

Hullo there! Have you seen the July challenge at Kraft + yet? The challenge is to be inspired by their Bollywood moodboard. The board is full of hot pinks, purples, blues, greens and golds. I chose to use some of these bright colours and adapt them to suit the colours of a very different country!

I liked the combination of gold with the bright colours so I added gold to my project. And yes, that's a paintbrush! I thought it was fitting for a page about art.

The henna designs also made me think of stamping. My stamping ended up being nothing like the swirly henna designs on the challenge board but the inspiration was still there! I chose to use folk art-style stamps as that is what matched my layout.

I went crazy with the colours on the title and added cute folk art-style touches like the little houses.

Rediscover Your Old Stash!

Welcome back! Ooohh, we've got a great challenge over at More Than Words this month. The challenge is to be inspired by the word "Discover" and to use up some "Old Stash" on your project. Using up Old Stash is something that nearly all of us need to do so I was keen to get stuck into this one.

I raided my, ahem, "extensive" supplies and came up with this:

Absolutely everything on this page is old and some is positively ancient! Remember how we'd sometimes get scrapping papers in magazines? I used some of those here. I don't think I've ever used these papers before. I must say, I rather like them! The alphas are similarly ancient, but by mixing the fonts, and with creative use of colours, I think I created a more modern look with them.

The yellow tab is actually the top of some old packaging. I like the funky see-through effect.

Back at Kraft +

Hello again. I'm thrilled to be back designing for Kraft +. The ladies there are such a wonderful bunch and the challenges are cool!

Here's what I made for the June challenge.

And here is the challenge board:

The challenge is to "add patterns" to your project. I took inspiration from the patterns on the board as well as the colours. I rummaged through my paper stash until I found similar patterns. I found these colours quite challenging as they're not my 'go to' colours at all, however challenges are what make us grow! I also took inspiration from the grid-like design of the board.

I layered up paper squares and topped them with chipboard leaves tied on with string and backed with circles of cotton.

I stitched around every piece of paper on the layout and added a few embellies.
